On Friday, January 24th the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood opened its seventh annual exhibition and fundraiser Abracadabra. The exhibit features more than 120 donated works by contemporary artists, among them students, faculty, and alumni of FIU’s College of Architecture + The Arts.
The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood was started in 1975, and in 1990 was housed in its current location, a 1920s residence. The old building buzzed with energy as the Center showed the various media included in Abracadabra, and as crowds poured in to enjoy the art and support the Center. On the walls was the work of Art + Art History students like AdrienneRose Gionta, MFA student and Ivan Santiago, MFA student, and that of alumni such as Peter Hammar (MFA ’12), Tara Penick (BA ’12), Alex Trimino (MFA ’12), Samantha Salzinger (BFA ’95), Kim Yantis (MFA ’10) and Monica López De Victoria (BFA ’02) showing with Natasha López De Victoria as the TM Sisters. Additionally, some of our very own faculty exhibited in Abracadabra: Lissette Schaeffler (Adjunct Faculty), Andrew Nigon (Adjunct Faculty), Carmen Tiffany (Visiting Faculty), and Pip Brant (Associate Professor).
Abracadabra at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood (1650 Harrison Street, Hollywood, FL 33020) will run until March 14th, 2014. A live drawing will take place on Friday, March 14th, at 6PM, which involves a random drawing of ticket holders’ names; the ticket holder picked will be allowed to select any original work of art from Abracadabra to have for their own keeping.
