FIU CARTA’s Department of Art + Art History prides itself in being Worlds Ahead, and department chair and professor David Chang proves us correct every time. Starting this upcoming Friday, FIU’s Miami Beach Urban Studios (MBUS) will be hosting the David Chang Landscapes exhibition. FIU MBUS hosted an opening reception for the exhibit on October 11th that was free and open to the public.

It is Chang’s hope that “this exhibition will provide the viewers with the aesthetic, emotional, and intellectual experiences that coalesce past and present, exotic and sublime.”

Professor Chang has excelled in his field during his time here at FIU. His artworks have been collected internationally. He is the Chair of the Florida Artists Group (FLAG-Area1) – Florida’s oldest and most prestigious professional artists association which requires a juried membership. Professor Chang has been awarded the Florida Higher Education Art Educator Prize as well as the Florida Art Education Distinguished Service Award.

Chang is the Founding Director of the Academy of Portrait and Figurative Art. The academy serves as an ‘atelier where students learn one-on-one with Professor Chang, to develop and perfect their skills. The courses focus on portrait, figure, and landscape paintings, with weekly studio time requirements where they can engage with their peers.’

The Department of Art + Art History time and time again has proven why it is considered world-class; with its diverse and experienced faculty, and achieving students, FIU remains breaking boundaries.
