Julian Pardo Opens ‘De Donde Vengo Yo’ at the FIU Photography Gallery

Alumnus Julian Pardo will open De Donde Vengo Yo at the FIU Photography Gallery on Thursday, February 4th.

De Donde Vengo Yo explores the theme of family, which is found in much of Pardo’s work. Below is a statement Pardo wrote for this exhibition:

Family Constellations is an alternative therapeutic method, which draws on elements of family systems therapy and existential phenomenology. It is an approach to [revealing] the unseen family dynamics that are to be worked with and healed. Present-day problems may be influenced by traumas in previous generations of the family. [This method examines] the full panorama of human experience, seeking the sense of meaning rather than understanding the mind, emotion, and consciousness in terms of its constituent parts. My interest in the facets of family dynamics involves where and how personas are revealed and their tendencies. [The exhibit transcends] through each individual, engaging in a form of cohesive and independent communication that serves to represent the true nature of the family.

Julian Pardo (b. 1984, Colombia) Miami-based Colombian artist graduated from Broward College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida International University. His work has been shown in local galleries and museums such as the Young at Art Museum, Little Haiti Cultural Center, and Alma Gallery. Along with exhibiting his works, Pardo has also co-curated a South Florida artist-based group photography exhibition titled Freshly Squeezed at the Dina Mitrani Gallery. He has worked under the guidance of many well-known artists like Jim Goldberg from Magnum Photo, Alessandra Sanguinneti, and Bruce Giden. Social commentaries through the use of a variety of media became a focal interest for Pardo, as an expressive tool to translate ideas and personal experiences into a universal understanding.
