Join us today at Miami Beach Urban Studios (MBUS) for the Queering Performance and Performing Queer: The Histrionic Performances of Nao Bustamante lecture by Professor Amelia Jones.

In her lecture, Jones argues that “American artist Nao Bustamante queers performance and performs queer. Trickster and humorist, romantic and philosopher, Bustamante acts out through histrionics and emotional excess, treading the line between sincerity and fakery in her range of performance and installation works and provokes us to think about how we situate ourselves in the world”.

Amelia Jones practices a queer, anti-racist, feminist history and theory of twentieth- and twenty-first century Euro-American visual arts, including performance, film, video, and installation—articulated in relation to increasingly global frameworks. Amelia is the author of a number of award-winning books regarding these matters and many of her articles and essays have been published. In addition, she has curated many exhibitions and has organized performance and creative events. Jones is a professor and Grierson Chair in Visual Culture from McGill University, Canada.

Following the lecture will be an aerobic drawing performance incorporating audience participation by FIU Assistant Professor of Drawing Michael Namkung, in conjunction with the current exhibition, “Game Show.”

Following the performance there will be a reception where guests are invited to view the current show “Game Show” and discuss the lecture.
