Professor and Associate Dean of FIU College of Communication, Architecture + the Arts (CARTA) Marilys Nepomechie and Associate Professor Thomas Spiegelhalter are speaking at the Facade Tectonics Forum: Miami on Friday, March 22, 2019. The forum is hosted by the Facade Tectonics Institute and University of Miami’s School of Architecture.

The Facade Tectonics Institute brings its celebrated forum to Miami, FL as thought leaders explore the amplified threats of climate change in this unique urban context. The forum is a full-day architecture seminar focused on contemporary facade systems and new innovated technologies for building skins. This year’s forum is entitled, Material Matters: Emerging Strategies and Design Practices for Facade Systems, Buildings and Urban Habitat.

Professor Thomas Spiegelhalter is participating in the third session of the day, named “Breaking Even: Carbon-neutral high rise envelope design for extreme tropical climate impacts”. The session will discuss carbon neutrality in the context of tall buildings in tropical climates. Professor Spiegelhalter of Studio Thomas Spiegelhalter + Associates will be joined with Angel Suarez of Perkins+Will, and Kevin Greiner of FIU’s Metropolitan Center and UrbanCentric Analytics as they explore the potential shape of urban futures that balances the often-competing demands of carbon neutrality and resilience.
