On Monday, March 3rd, 2025, FIU in DC provided an incredible opportunity for Professor Shahin Vassigh and NSF-CREST Postdoctoral Fellow Sara Pezeshk, both from the RDF Lab, to meet with staff members of several Florida congressmen, congresswomen, and senators on Capitol Hill to advocate for the South Florida Innovation Engine for Coastal Resiliency.

As Professor Vassigh stated, “We are grateful for the opportunity that FIU in DC provided for me to present the South Florida Coastal Resilience initiative to key federal lawmakers and staff members on behalf of our team. Along with NSF-CREST Postdoctoral Fellow Sara Pezeshk, I met with several of Florida’s congressmen, congresswomen, and senators’ staff to discuss the project’s impact on our region’s future. We also had the opportunity to present to a large group of stakeholders, including members of the FIU Alumni Association, at FIU’s DC office.”
The presentation highlighted the project’s potential impact on the region’s future and engaged key stakeholders in the conversation about coastal resiliency.

The meeting and presentation underscore the ongoing commitment of FIU and its researchers to addressing critical issues facing South Florida, fostering collaboration, and driving impactful change for the region’s future.
