On Thursday, February 27th, Force Frames by Assistant Professor Nick Gelpi closed at the BEA International Gallery in the Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture building.

The “Force Frame Pavilion” that was installed in the gallery was an “understructured structure,” according to GELPI Projects. The statement written by GELPI Projects said, “After carefully studying the flexibility of thin structural elements, this pavilion was constructed of precisely stacked molecules which are individually squeezed with tension or sagging from a lack of tension….As the frames are squeezed their shapes change. These changes are measured to allow precise stacking of the frames at custom joints. The thinness of the structure allows movement and motion and reveals forces in various appearances.”

Visitors were invited to “tap lightly on the structures,” to study the force that travels within the frames of the pavilion.

The closing reception of Force Frames will took place on Thursday, February 27th at 6:30PM at the BEA International Gallery, Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture building, after the lecture by Matias Del Campo in PCA 135.
