FIU Architecture alumni Juan Gelez ’14 (MArch) and Delia Rivera ’14 (MArch) of Joint Studio in Miami were mentioned in the Miami Herald for their creation of the “Poet Roller” for the fifth annual O, Miami Poetry Festival.

The “Poet Roller” is a 24-by-36-inch wood roller with metallic components and a foam stencil that repeatedly imprints the words “Mañana? Always Mañana.” This is the last line of the poem Self-portrait as Still Life by late Miami poet Donald Justice. Gelez and Rivera chose this poem among twenty that were provided by O, Miami. Gelez said to the Miami Herald: “’The repetition enforced by the rollers becomes its own visual poem and reinforces a sense of language’s impermanence, as waves and feet mar and erase the words,’…“We thought this poem would resonate with a lot of people, especially the locals,’….” (Source: Miami Herald)

On April 11th, 16th, and 23rd, the roller was used on a portion of the Miami Beach sand that spans from South Pointe Park (1 Washington Avenue) to Lincoln Road.
