FIU’s Department of Architecture presents, David Leatherbarrow’s “Involvement and Invention” lecture on February 21st at the Paul L. Cejas building room 135  at 5:00pm.

Leatherbarrow, Professor of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, Interim-Chairman of the Department of Architecture and Associate Dean of the School of Design, will explain how architectural design involves equal measures of involvement and invention. The world in which we live is both the context and outcome of productive work thus creative work in architecture depends on accepting constraints and seizing opportunities. From the onset, students face the difficult task of integrating their newly acquired professional skills and knowledge into their pre-professional experience, and understanding their inherited culture.

This talk will develop its arguments in favor of “involved invention” by looking closely at a number of buildings, gardens, and paintings.
