Dedication and hard work has paid off for FIU architecture graduate student Catherine Pageau, who has been named the Florida Educational Facilities Planners’ Association (FEFPA) scholarship winner for the academic year 2013-2014!
FEFPA is a “statewide organization of facilities planners and associate members involved in planning public educational facilities in K-12, colleges and universities,” and their scholarship program is “designed to assist and encourage students pursuing a career in educational facilities planning or a closely related field.”
Before Pageau started her graduate studies at FIU in fall 2012, she took a sharp turn in life by leaving her 10-year career in business administration to pursue architecture. As a married mother of two small children, she knew the sacrifices she needed to make in order to fulfill her goals. Managing her time wisely between family and studies, Pageau excelled in her first year at FIU by accumulating a GPA of 3.95, as well as receiving an honorable mention at the nationwide Herman Miller student video contest as part of the Film and the Architecture of Modern Life class spring ’13. Even though she had to stop her studies as a full time student due to financial reasons in spring 2013, “the FEFPA judges saw not only my need for the Scholarship but also my drive to continue and excel in my career,” Pageau said.
Being truly honored that FEFPA selected her as the recipient for the award, Pageau believes “that when you have a dream of accomplishing something you can make it happen if you really put in the effort.”
