Florida International University’s School of Architecture professor, Thomas Spiegelhalter was invited as speaker and panelist for the XI Congress of Sustainable Architecture- Heritage- Education in Costa Rica from May 2-4.
The event, which is organized by the Colegio de Arquitectos de Costa Rica and The International Union of Architects (UIA), aims to assist architects in developing sustainable environments.
Being an expert in Carbon-Neutral Design in particular for tropical climate, Professor Spiegelhalter has had the opportunity to lecture around the world for over 20 years. He spoke to a packed auditorium when he delivered his lecture “Analyzing and Designing Carbon-Neutral Infrastructures, Cities and Buildings – Thomas Spiegelhalter Projects 1989-2013”. All the conferences were well attended and featured in a Costa Rican major newspaper.
The event featured panelist discussions between Spiegelhalter, Bruno Stagno (Costa Rica), Pliny Fisk III, Co-director of the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems, (USA), Eduardo Elkouss, (Spain), Daniel Young (Panama), and Alfredo Conti (Argentina).
During Professor Spiegelhalter’s visit, he had a parallel agenda for consulting on design projects. “I am a tropical design consultant for the new El Rodeo School designed by Renzo Piano from Genua (Italy) and FoRo Architects San Jose, Costa Rica. In addition, I’m involved in the environmental design of several small scale tropical buildings in Costa Rica” said Spiegelhalter.
