Angelica Torres (’11) graduated from the College of Architecture + The Arts with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. She will be graduating in Spring 2014 from a three-year Master of Fine Arts program at the California Institute of the Arts. As she is completing her MFA, Torres is also interning with the Walt Disney Imagineering CalArts Educational Initiative, an opportunity she attained through Disney’s connection with the California Institute of the Arts (which was founded by Walt Disney himself). Each year, the Institute’s School of Theatre and the executives from Walt Disney choose 12 candidates from a wide range of disciplines for the internship. Torres, as one of the chosen interns for 2013, now collaborates with other participants – from the disciplines of theatre, writing, direction, set design, scene painting, and costume design – on creative projects. These projects are then presented and proposed to Disney. After this program finishes, it is a possibility that Torres will be chosen for a full-time internship with Disney’s Imagineering Department.

“My undergraduate studies at FIU [not only] provided me with a strong foundation…with the brilliant knowledge from many of the professors,” said Torres, “but also taught the commitment, discipline and passion involved in the design field.” For Torres, the Architecture program at FIU prepared her for her current projects and endeavors, and taught her to reach beyond conceived limits. She plans to continue applying what she has learned from FIU to her future plans, which involves delving into the film industry in Los Angeles and doing production design for film and television. Currently, Torres is working on the production design of a film with the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts.
