FIU Theatre students had an amazing educational and cultural experience this summer with the Shakespeare in Stratford & London Study Abroad program.
Following three weeks of play script analysis at FIU, the group of 20 theatre majors and two English majors spent two weeks in England visiting historic sites, participating in workshops, and seeing four theatrical performances with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and two productions at the Globe Theatre, London.
The group saw six shows during their stay in England: Julius Caesar, Titus Andronicus, Anthony and Cleopatra and Oscar Wilde’s Salome at the Royal Shakespeare Company and Twelfth Night and Much Ado About Nothing at the Globe Theatre.
Students toured Shakespeare’s houses and gardens throughout Stratford-upon-Avon, visited his burial site at the Holy Trinity Church, and explored Anne Hathaway’s cottage and Mary Arden’s farm.
A day trip to Oxford University offered them a chance to discover Oxford University, the Ashmolean Museum, and the renowned Bodleian Library. The group also visited two 16th century castles – Kenilworth and Warwick.
FIU Theatre offers the Shakespeare in Stratford & London Study Abroad program every year and is already taking applications for the summer of 2018. For more information, contact Phillip Church at firstname.lastname@example.org or 305-348-3358.
