Students Explore “The Windy City”

A group of FIU Landscape Architecture students from Professor Gianno Feoli’s Graduate Design 5 studio traveled to Chicago during the second week of September to conduct a preliminary site visit. The group visited the heart of downtown Chicago and vicinity as preparation for various urban design proposals focused on the city’s north side.  During the five day tour, students had the opportunity to visit some of the famous landmarks of the “The Windy City,”  which included a stop at Millennium Park, the Frank Gehry-designed Jay Pritzker Pavilion, and Renzo Piano’s Nichols Bridgeway. Additionally, students had an opportunity to visit Jackson Park, one of the most remarkable and historic landscapes in the nation, located in the south side of Chicago and known as the site for 1893 The Chicago World’s Fair which was in large part designed by Daniel Burnham and Frederick Law Olmsted, the forefather of landscape architecture in the United States.
