Students and Faculty Learn at USITT 2013

USITT 2013 - Students and Faculty expand their knowledge at USITT

United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) is an annual conference for Theatre professionals and students. For more information about USITT visit: USITT.org

Cover the Walls at USITT showcases the scenic, costume and lighting design work of USITT members in a non-juried display format. It provides an opportunity for USITT members to share their design work with fellow theatre artists, and to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and approaches to design. FIU Theatre Faculty member Tony Galaska presented his lighting design for The Misanthrope at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey on the Cover The Walls Exhibit at the conference.

Jesse Dreikosen, FIU Theatre’s Head of Design and Production, is also USITT Vice-Commissioner for Education in the Scene Design & Technologies Commission, as well as Chair of Design, Technology & Management for KCACTF.  Dreikosen spent the week at USITT in many meetings.  As Vice-Commissioner he was responsible for programming the future conference sessions presented by the Scene Design Commission – leading the search for new ideas and approaches to teaching design in the classroom and beyond.

Stage Expo 2013 hosted more than 200 companies along with Special Exhibits from around the world, interactive areas where USITT membership displayed their work from the past year, and innovations which are sure to inspire future programs! Students  attended a selection of sessions and encountered all the resources they could possibly need for production purposes. Lighting, sound, video or scene design, costumes and makeup –  Stage Expo has all of it covered. More info [HERE]

Students also met and interviewed with companies like Cirque du Soliel, Disney, and ETC – all leading companies for the Entertainment Industry. Along with personally meeting distinguished designers of this industry, like David Gallo, Richard Pilbrow, Desmond Heeley, Rachel Keebler and the list goes on!
