Roma Ingrid James, Graduating BFA Student Exhibits for International Education Week

During International Education Week (November 15-19), College of Architecture + The Arts student Roma Ingrid James exhibited her work in the Graham Center Gallery’s Art Showcase. The art exhibition focused on work created abroad, by students who participated in either the Art Education en Plein Air program in France or the Experiencing China Through Art and Culture program. Students displayed the techniques and cultures they absorbed during their time studying abroad.

Roma Ingrid James participated in the Experiencing China Through Art and Culture program in Summer 2013. James recounted her time in the country. “The most distinct thing I [remember] about the Chinese people is [that] they are hard workers….Also, they are unbelievably creative.” For Art Showcase, James exhibited paintings created with acrylic and chalk. “The inspiration for the paintings was the ancient dynasties and [the] brilliant colors that Chinese artists use.” James has adopted something from across the globe, and used it for her own work at FIU. Studying abroad, she said, has benefitted her artistry. “As an artist I became more rounded in my artistic education,” she said. “….I had this great opportunity to be exposed to Eastern arts and culture.”

Roma Ingrid James will graduate in Fall 2013 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Art and a minor in Art History.
