Robert Rovira Receives Sustainability Award From the South Florida Hispanic Chamber

Roberto Rovira, Chair of the Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design (LAEUD) Department, received the Hispanic Leadership Award on Sustainability from the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SFLHCC) on Friday, March 20th, 2015

The Hispanic Leadership Awards, hosted this year at the Coral Gables Country Club, is held annually in the month of March. It is a signature event of the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and recognizes individuals that provide excellence in different fields within the Hispanic market of South Florida. These individuals, companies and organizations have worked and volunteered within their community to help improve and make our city a better place to live, work, and play. (Source: SFLHCC)

Roberto Rovira is Chair of the LAEUD Department at FIU and Principal of Studio Roberto Rovira. As a registered landscape architect with a design, engineering, and fine arts background, his teaching, research, and creative work explore the field of landscape architecture through various lenses and often test the concepts of time and transformation and the potential of landscape architecture to play a pivotal role in envisioning and shaping public space.

Rovira has been lead designer in national and international projects and his work ranges from environmental installations and competitions, to art commissions, exhibits, and landscape architectural projects. He obtained a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1998 and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in 1990. Roberto Rovira was recognized by the Architectural League with the 2015 Emerging Voice award, one of the most coveted awards in North American architecture, which spotlights individuals and firms based in the U. S., Canada, and Mexico who have distinct design voices and the potential to influence the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, and urbanism. Rovira is also the recipient of numerous design and teaching awards and was recognized as one of FIU’s Top Scholars in 2009. His work has been published and recognized by Princeton Architectural Press, Routlege/Taylor-Francis, Landscape Architecture Magazine, the Journal of Landscape Architecture, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Institute of Architects, the International Federation of Landscape Architects, the Council for Educators in Landscape Architecture, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, and the Van Alen Institute.
