MFA Candidate, Selected to Participate in 2017 MFA National Competition

Karla Kantorovich, Master in Fine Arts (MFA) candidate, was selected to participate in the 2017 MFA National Competition. Kantorovich was 1 of 500 participants who received this special honor.

This year, the 7th edition of the MFA National Competition was hosted in New York City at the First Street Gallery. Located in the heart of the Chelsea neighborhood, the gallery has been exhibiting and promoting work of emerging and mid-career artists for more than 40 years. This special opportunity offers winning artists to display their work in a three week long exhibition in one of the leading cultural cities of the world.

Kantorovich, among other participants, were chosen by Juror, Dorothea Rockaburne; a renowned artist, Guggenheim Fellow and American Academy of Arts and Letters member, whose work has been in collections of MOMA, MMA, Yale , and The Guggenheim Museum.

The competition was open to artists who are current or former MFA graduates who have been living for the past three years in the United States. Paintings, drawings, mixed media, prints, sculpture, photography, installations and computer-generated art, were eligible for the competition.

Kantorovich is currently a second year Master in Fine Arts candidate at FIU Department of Art + Art History, specializing in painting and mixed media. Her submission also selected to be the featured art piece on the competition’s marketing material.

The College of Communications, Architecture and the Arts (CARTA), congratulates Karla Kantorovich for this achievement and representing FIU!
