‘Macroscope:’ Second-Year MFA Candidate Exhibit Opens 4/23 at Frost Art Museum

Macroscope, the second-year Master of Fine Arts candidates’ exhibition, will open Wednesday, April 23rd at the FIU Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, during its FrostArt Wednesday After Hours.

The following statement is presented by the second-year MFA candidates featured in Macroscope:

“The macroscope filters details and amplifies that which links things together. It is not used to make things larger or smaller but to observe what is at once too great, too slow, and too complex for our eyes.”

 – Joël de Rosnay– The Macroscope, 1979

The MFA degree serves to allow artists an opportunity to become fully immersed in artistic practice in a structured environment of faculty and their peers. In this time they learn to connect their work to concepts and discussions on a broader scale while refining their voice through their work. Through exploration of topics like identity, gender, urban flux, language, history, and the sublime they develop their own observations and focus them through the lens of art. This exhibition is a survey of their current work before they begin developing a thesis and final exhibition.

The second-year MFA candidates featured in Macroscope at the FIU Frost Art Museum are:

Nick Gilmore
Andrew Horton
Yasmin Khalaf
Joe Locke
Gardner Cole Miller
Kristin O’Neil
Ivan Santiago

The opening reception for Macroscope by the second-year Master of Fine Arts candidates will take place on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014 from 6PM-9PM at the FIU Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum: 10975 SW 17th Street, Miami, FL 33199. Free and open to the public.
