Tony Martinez, a Los Angeles talent agent with Kazarian, Measures, Ruskin & Associates (KMR), visited FIU Theatre last week and held masterclasses for the BFA and BA acting students.
“There are two parts to any successful acting career,” he told the students. “You have to be strong with your craft, but you also need to understand the professional part. You are your own small business.”
Martinez gave students a glimpse into the professional world of acting for film and television, sharing stories from his over 20 years in the business and answering questions about how to break in to the business. Students also had an opportunity to show him some of their audition materials and get feedback.
Throughout his career, Martinez has represented series regulars on many hit television shows like 30 Rock, Lost, CSI, Desperate Housewives, Heroes, Criminal Minds, and V. Before becoming an agent, he produced music videos for high profile groups like the Black Crowes, Run-DMC, and The Beastie Boys.
