Juan Antonio Bueno and Julio César Pérez Present at 102nd Annual ACSA Meeting

The College of Architecture + The Arts’ Juan Antonio Bueno, Professor of Landscape Architecture and Julio César Pérez, Harvard University Loeb Fellow will present a co-authored paper entitled “The National Schools of Art: A Flow Often Disrupted in Cuba” at the 102nd Annual Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) Meeting. Bueno and Pérez will present their work at the Local Modernisms session of the meeting.

The meeting will take place in Miami Beach. Its base will be at the Eden Roc Miami Beach, a structure designed by Morris Lapidus. As part of the ACSA Meeting, participants will participate in workshops at FIU College of Architecture + The Arts’ Miami Beach Urban Studios. The Co-Chairs of the meeting are the College’s own John Stuart, Associate Dean of Cultural and Community Engagement and Professor of Architecture and Mabel O. Wilson, Associate Professor of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University.

This year’s theme for the ACSA Meeting is “GLOBALIZING ARCHITECTURE / Flows and Disruptions.” The meeting will focus on ideas of “place, power, and social responsibility” (acsa-arch.org) as conceived by communication theorist and intellectual Marshall McLuhan. The meeting, taking place during the 50th anniversary of McLuhan’s Understanding Media, will relate these three elements to the field of architecture.
