In a recent article written by Galena Mosovich for The Miami Herald, College of Architecture + The Arts alumni Jillian Mayer (FIU BFA’ 07) and AdrienneRose Gionta (FIU MFA ’14) were mentioned as two of many artists taking on innovative and creative projects in the South Florida visual arts community.
Jillian Mayer has designed the recent cover of Ocean Drive magazine. Her hand on the cover design is part of Niche Media’s Art of the City initiative, which showcases “rising-star artists on 11 of its city-specific covers.” (Source: Miami Herald) Nine of these rising-star artists have donated an artwork each to the website Charity Buzz. Mayer is one of these nine artists. Her donation will benefit Locust Projects, the Miami organization that helped launch her career.
Additionally, Mayer – along with fellow FIU alumna AdrienneRose Gionta – has been selected as a finalist for the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami’s Open Call for Web-Based Art.
Jillian Mayer submitted a work with Tyler Madsen and Erik Carter called “Selfeed.com,” a webpage that features real-time updates of the “#selfie” hashtag on Instagram. The project premiered at the Utah Museum of Fine Art in January 2014.
AdrienneRose Gionta submitted “My Big Fat Summer as A Skinny Hot Chick in Second Life,” which she began in June 2013. This project looks into the process of creating and becoming a virtual personality that may well be the opposite or supposedly perfected version of the human being behind it. ICA Miami’s Open Call asks for a different medium each season. The exhibition for this 2015 edition of digital and web-based art is on view until September 13th, 2015 at ICA Miami (4040 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami, Florida 33137).
