Grad 2 Studio Re-envision Future Workplaces

Tasked with finding an innovative site where interior architecture students can experiment, develop, and design new concepts for the workplace of the future, FIU Interior Architecture adjunct professor Yaprak Markeset teamed up with Developers of Miami Iron Side complex in the south of the causeway (SoCa) district to offer students an exciting site to explore.

The Miami Iron Side complex  is a neighborhood of artists and designers that affords for organic growth and a strong sense of community. Offer Mizrahi developed the site as a visionary, creative, and innovative approach to adaptive re-use of urban spaces. Mizrahi transformed a set of industrial buildings into a vibrant and creative live & work complex. Our students from Graduate Design 2 Studio visited the site on January 22nd to explore the recently transformed space.

The main purpose of this field trip was for students to study the complex and to analyze the space in order to develop program goals for their final project this semester. Students will be redesigning the Coverings Showroom into an office that explores how to support new and future modes of working.

This project is part of a competition called THINK/WORK, organized by IFI – International Federation of Interior architects/ designers WING competition. It asks participants to re-envision, re-invent and re-design future workspaces. Students will develop a three-minute video showcasing their findings about innovative work spaces. Several students will submit these videos to the competition.
