FIU SCJ & Sony Music Latin’s Latest Release: Student Influencer & Marketing Internship Program

Florida International University’s School of Communication + Journalism (SCJ) and Sony Music Latin have come together to create the first-of-its-kind formal program, which will continue for future semesters.

With the help of Rudy Vila, Assistant Vice President of Business Services for FIU, SCJ was able to spearhead this initiative.

FIU SCJ staff collaborated with Sony Music Latin staff members to hand-select the qualified students to intern for the Fall 2019 semester.

“Colleges and Universities have always fostered the music communities that not only influence the sounds of today, but also build the companies of tomorrow,” said Jose Abreu, VP of Digital Strategies for Sony Music Latin. “It’s our responsibility to the artist community that we foster these relationships and give them a platform.”

Four Communication + Journalism students were chosen to join the company as interns. Jose Valle, Maria Paula Velez, and Camila Insuasti serve as social media influencer interns who are responsible for generating campus-wide excitement through social media and student-planned Sony events on campus. Armando Nabut serves as the paid marketing specialist intern, ensuring influencers are up-to-date with the latest music releases and allowing them to further promote the artist on social media

“The four of us have individually learned so much from each other, and we’ve all bonded as a team which has allowed us to better collaborate on projects with Sony,” said influencer Jose Valle, who was able to fly to Los Angeles to attend the Latin American Music Awards and Las Vegas for the Latin Grammy Awards. All the influencers were also able to meet Sony Music Artists Becky G and Farruko!

There is nothing better than Sony Music Latin,” influencer Maria Valdez expresses her excitement, “it offers me an experience to be the next connoisseur in the music industry… (and) helps me work on what I have learned in school about business and marketing ourselves.”

We can’t wait to see where this inaugural partnership takes our students and how the program evolves in future semesters.
