FIU Music Festival Returns November 3-18 with Top Artists To Benefit Relief Efforts

On November 3 – 18, 2017, the FIU Music Festival will take Miami by storm with a star studded line up of Classical, Early Music, Jazz, and Latin Jazz artists. Top local, national and international performers will take to the stage to support those affected by recent disasters in Puerto Rico and Mexico when the festival returns to the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center.

The festival will feature nine culturally diverse performances by artists and ensembles including Paquito D’Rivera, Nestor Torres, New World Symphony, Conductor Javier Jose Mendoza, Amernet String Quartet, Kemal Gekic, Denis Brott, FIU Symphony Orchestra, Jerry Bergonzi and Andy Laverne Duo, Guillermo Figueroa, Raúl Prieto Ramírez, Robert Davidovici, Grand Harmonie, and New York-based Continuum Ensemble.

Scheduled for November 3, Grammy winners Nestor Torres and Paquito D’Rivera will headline the relief concert for an evening of jazz classics; proceeds will be donated to the FIU Disaster Response and Recovery Fund to help support FIU students, faculty and staff whose families may find themselves in financial distress due to hurricane Maria. One hundred percent of the money raised through this fund will go to helping those impacted.

The FIU School of Music closes its festival on November 18 with a salute to those of Hispanic Heritage. Audiences will celebrate the richness and varied rhythms and melodies of Latin American music, with a performance by the FIU Symphony Orchestra, conducted FIU’s newly appointed Orchestra Director, Javier Jose Mendoza. Proceeds will benefit earthquake relief in Mexico.

Tickets are on sale now. Donations will be taken at the door and online throughout the festival.

The FIU Music Festival is presented by the FIU School of Music and funded in part by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs.
