Exhibitions at The Photography Gallery on FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus

Photography professors, Eduardo del Valle and Mirta Gómez run The Photography Gallery located at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus in room 105 in the Academic Center II building.

Del Valle and Gómez have been running the gallery for the past 30 years and have reviewed hundreds of portfolios of artists who want their work shown at the gallery. The duo are talented and renowned photographers themselves, and have pieces exhibited in a permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, as well as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among others. Del Valle and Gómez have published numerous books and have exhibited in countless galleries and museums. Most recently, they were published in the limited edition series, titled “Six by Six”.Their portfolio is managed by Jim Kempner Fine Art, located in New York.

During the fall and spring semesters, there are typically two exhibitions, while exhibitions during the summer vary. At first, only emerging and established photographers would show at the gallery but over the past seven or eight years, students and recent graduates began exhibiting their work. During the spring 2013 semester, both shows exhibit current BFA students’ photographs. Currently on exhibition is “Sand, Gravel and Stone”, which showcases BFA student Sebastian Muñoz’s work. The shots are stunning and showcases the talent FIU’s art students possess.

When John Szarkowski retired as the Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), he had his first solo show at The Photography Gallery.

You can stop by the gallery Mondays and Wednesdays from 11am-3pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am-2pm. Below are the exhibitions that will be on view this semester.
