Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center Hosts Internship Recruitment Event for Documentary

“Climate Change is happening. Are you ready?”

That’s the question posed by the documentary Built to Last: Saving Our Homes in the Age of Disasters, which was inspired by FIU Extreme Events Institute’s Dr. Aris Papadopoulos, partially funded by the Resilience Action Fund, and which has been broadcast by a dozen Public Broadcasting Stations nationwide.

FIU CARTA’s School of Communication + Journalism students learned about new internships available to help publicize the documentary during a recent event at the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication. Presenters Dr. Papadopoulos, Erik Salna, and Anita Serrate are seeking students for internships that offer flexible hours, telework, cash awards, and academic credit. Students will also cultivate valuable a valuable network of contacts at television stations across the nation, and have the opportunity to develop innovative social media campaigns to accompany the documentary’s promotion.

Dr. Papadopoulos was previously the CEO of the construction company Titan America, where he gained a unique insight into the urgent need for more disaster-resistant structures worldwide. He served as the first chairman of the Private Sector Advisory Group of the United Nation’s International Strategy for Disaster Reduction.
