Department of Journalism + Media Debuts Online Spanish-Language Journalism Master’s Program

Florida International University’s School of Communication and Journalism’s (SCJ) Spanish-language journalism master’s program is now offered online. The School’s bilingual graduate courses will be available Fall 2019.

The online program offers professional and aspiring journalists a unique and tailored track to further develop the Spanish-speaking and writing skills necessary to work in Spanish-language media in the U.S. and abroad. Students will also have access to specializations in Spanish-language Journalism + Multimedia and Spanish-language Journalism in Latin American + Caribbean Studies.

The Spanish-language Journalism Master’s Program, which was founded 25 years ago, is the first of its kind in the U.S. Although taught fully in Spanish, students can choose to present assignments in English.

“This program will benefit students who live outside the U.S., have conflicts that prevent them from attending classes in person, or newer generations who are more accustomed to online instruction,” said Alejandro Alvarado Bremer, faculty program coordinator for the Spanish-language Journalism Master’s Program.

Students based in the U.S. will be able to further develop their journalistic skills at the School’s South Florida Media Network’s news bureaus located in Washington, D.C., New York City and Miami. Students who prefer in-person guidance may continue to attend classes on campus.

The deadline to apply for fall is June 1, 2019.
