Clive King Exhibits Works on Paper at Miami Beach Urban Studios

Clive King, Professor Emeritus of Fine Art and former Chair of FIU Art + Art History (1992-98) is exhibiting his works on paper at The College of Architecture + The Arts | Miami Beach Urban Studios.

The exhibition is made up of a selection of drawings from the last decade. They include the series King is working on about a coal mining tragedy in a village close to his childhood home. It claimed a generation of children. As with most of his work, King explores his personal feelings about the subject matter, rather than convey a more literal interpretation. (Source: Clive King)

His interest lies more in illusion than physicality – that is why his large pieces are usually presented frameless and without glass. Kings wants his pieces to “float like wafers on the wall” – as a physical presence without weight. He wants his work to “push you back or suck you in.” The drawings in the Urban Studios exhibition range from small thumbnail sketches to large mural-sized works on paper in a range of media. (Source: Clive King)

Clive King’s exhibition opens with a reception on Friday, May 13th, 2016 at 7PM at The College of Architecture + The Arts | Miami Beach Urban Studios: 420 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, FL 33139.

The exhibition will run until June 17th, 2016.
