The College of Art & Art History was asked by FIU President, Mark B. Rosenberg, to create a mural to celebrate homecoming week. A collaborative team of 30 students, both undergraduates and Masters candidates, gathered at the FIU Stadium Tuesday morning to begin painting the mural.
Bringing together a congregation of creative minds, it is only obvious that many ideas sprung into action. They decided to merge concepts and create a pink, camouflage print background with natural, organic stencils.
The vision came about as a means to retain the legacy of this little known oasis, FIU’s Nature Preserve, at the Modesto Maidique campus. The students created the natural stencils by gathering the remains from the preserve, including branches, leaves and palm fronds.
Using paint sprayers and multi-colored cans of spray paint, collectively they were able to achieve the idea inspired by FIU’s Nature Preserve and hopefully leave a lasting impression on campus.
The finished project will be completed by Thursday, just in time for the homecoming football game against Louisiana Tech on Saturday night.
