Alumnus Augusto Mendoza (’12) Exhibits at Miami Mini Maker Faire

BAN-MAKERS-FAIRE-03College of Architecture + The Arts BFA alumnus Augusto Mendoza (’12) presented work at the Miami Mini Maker Faire on Saturday, November 16th. Mendoza had received a grant from the Awesome Foundation, with which he worked on the Zine Machine – a way to make art accessible to all. Through the Foundation, Mendoza was connected to the Miami Mini Maker Faire, which approved his proposal for a bookshop exhibition.

Mendoza founded his own publishing and graphic design organization in 2011, called Books Are Nice. The organization focuses on the printing form, and, interestingly, uses some handmade techniques in the process of publication. He presented products of Books Are Nice at the Miami Mini Maker Faire, and his exhibition, as a whole, was a bookshop. Mendoza also exhibited publications by others. Books were grouped so that visitors can drift from one item to the next, and they involved topics such as art, design, architecture, and literature. Additionally, Mendoza conducted a workshop during the exhibition with Adjunct Professor of Photography Peggy Levison Nolan called “How to Make Books.”

The Miami Mini Maker Faire took place on Saturday, November 16th at the LAB Miami: 400 NW 26th Street, Miami, FL 33127.
