Agrippina: A Story of Love, Lust, and Intrigue in Ancient Rome

FIU Opera Theater presents George Fridric Handel’s comic opera, Agrippina, a gripping tale of love, lust, and intrigue.

Agrippina  is an opera seria set in Ancient Rome.  Composed for the 1709–1710 Venice Carnevale season, the opera tells the story of Agrippina, the wife of the Emperor of Rome, Claudius, and follows her attempts to push her son, Nero, onto the throne. Agrippina stops at nothing to shove aside Nero’s competitors.

The production of this performance will feature The FIU Symphony Orchestra conducted/directed by Grzegorz Nowak. Robert Dundas, coordinator of the choral studies program, will serve as stage director. There will be two casts starring Evelyn Saavedra, Vindhya Khare, Anjane Girwarr, Sarah Payne, among many others.

The concert will take place on March 1 & 2, 7:30pm, in the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center, located on the Modesto A. Maidique campus.
