A+AH Artists Featured in New Girls’ Club Show

On November 10th, a new show at Girls’ Club called I think it’s in my head will open with a twilight reception. The exhibit, curated by the TM Sisters (composed of alumna Monica López de Victoria (’02) and Tasha López de Victoria), focuses on the mystical and mysterious. Including works from the collection of Girls’ Club Founders Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz, I think it’s in my head involves a diverse group of media. The exhibition includes video, sculpture, and prints, among other kinds. According to Girls’ Club, the works were selected by the TM Sisters “for their vivid metaphysics and esoteric allure.” “Mysticism plays a large role in the exhibition as well as [in] our planned public programming,” said Sarah Michelle Rupert, the Girls’ Club Gallery Director. “From year to year we really try to bring something different to Girls’ Club and really shake things up in our space, collaborating with guest curators and showcasing very different sides of the collection.”

I think it’s in my head involves students and alumni of the College of Architecture + The Arts. Among this group is alumnus Augusto Mendoza (’10), who runs his own publishing and graphic design business called Books Are Nice. Mendoza designed the catalog and graphics for the show. “Florida International University has a wealth of talent in its teaching staff,” said Gallery Director Sarah Michelle Rupert, “and we are always excited to see new work coming from its students.”
